A few weeks ago I got in touch with two travel blogging friends. They were looking for a fourth team member for an epic road trip.
A 10,000 mile drive halfway across the world in an underpowered Hyundai.
To be honest, I thought it sounded dangerous, a little foolhardy and kind of crazy.
Obviously all I could say to them was
“SIGN ME UP!”
What Is The Mongol Rally
The Mongol Rally is no doubt the brainchild of a few pissed Brits hanging around a camp fire in Mongolia.
It is one of those great alcohol and Red Bull inspired ideas that miraculously became a reality even after the hard cider wore off.
It is a road trip through some of the worlds toughest and most remote roads, with a car that was never meant to drive them. And all in the name of conserving our planet and acheiving the ultimate adventure.
Our Team: The Drama Of Llama
The Drama Of Llama is composed of Stephen of A Backpackers Tale, an American named Alex, Norbert of Globotreks and of course me, The Runaway Guide.
Together, with our 2005 Hyundai Getz, we are The Drama Of Llama. Check out the team website for more info on members and the car, The Drama Of Llama
How To Win
Although it’s called a rally, it isn’t the team who arrives first who wins but rather the team who has the biggest adventure.
The rally begins in London on July 13 and ends in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia whenever you manage to make it there. We’re planning on taking about a month but who knows. Essentially, everyone’s a winner. Check out the video below to see what I mean.
Our Route
Although it could change, below is a good idea of where we will be driving through.
Charity Fundraising
Each team is tasked with raising a minimum of 500 Pounds or 750$ USD for Cool Earth, the official Mongol Rally charity focused on saving the Amazon, and another minimum of £500 to a charity of their choice.
Our charity of choice, Set Her Free, is a non-profit organization that is working to restore the lives of young girls formerly enslaved in sex trades. Undoubtedly the harshest and most abominable forms of child labor in Uganda.
Thanks to your donations thus far we have raised 811$ USD.
However we are still in need of support if we are to reach our ultimate goal of 5000$ USD.
If we reach this goal, the money will have the potential support 4 young Ugandan girls for 1 year and save 20 acres of rainforest.

Sponsorship
Visas, the car, fuel, insurance, and food all add up. If you can spare any cash for gasoline and help us get to Mongolia so we can donate our car, we would greatly appreciate it. Plus we’ll give you a sweet video shout out from a random Central Asian country as well!
