I love to read but Buddha knows I don’t do it enough, which is probably kind of bad considering I want to be a writer. Instead, I generally end up downloading movies on my laptop or socializing at hostels.
When I finally do pick a book it’s almost always the same one, Shogun by James Clavell. I think I’ve read this book at least a dozen times. I know, it’s pretty sad. I just never know what else to read.
Fortunately, this all changed last may. One of my favorite travel bloggers, Torre DeRoche of Fearful Adventurer, finally published her long awaited memoir.
Torre and I both arrived on the travel blogging scene around the same time. I was immediately drawn to her blog not only because of her interesting posts and often hilarious toilette humor but because she too wanted to write and publish her adventure.
Now her book is out and I have to admit that I enjoyed it so much that I’ve read twice already. I’m not one for love stories but this book isn’t just a love story. It’s one of the wackiest adventures with just the right amount of romance told by one of the wittiest writers I’ve ever read.
Here’s a little preview of her new book entitled,
Love With A Chance Of Drowning
When Torre, an Australian native, takes a working holiday to San Fransico she meets a man at a cocktail bar. After a one night stand she learns that this guy isn’t just another IT dweeb. He’s got plans, big plans, plans to sail around the world. And he’s going to do it in a boat so small that it would probably make the most experienced sailor’s butthole pucker up.
One of things Torre fears most is the open ocean. And the idea of sailing across it definitely promotes some bowel churning angst. But she grows to love Ivan and she has to make a choice. Overcome her fears and sail away with the man she loves, or never see him again.
Conclusion
If you’re looking for great read that will make you laugh and inspire you to travel, this is it. It’s written entirely in the first person present tense, which gives you the feeling that you are right there with her. It is exciting, comical, and simply tremendous entertainment.
