About Katie Aune| KatieAune.com
In her own words: Throughout my 20s and early 30s, I took short (1-2 weeks) trips all over Western Europe, as well as to Peru, Egypt, Norway and Australia. In 2011, I quit my job to spend a year traveling and volunteering in the former Soviet Union. Over the next 13 months, I visited all 15 former Soviet republics, a journey that included volunteering in Russia and Armenia, teaching English in Tajikistan, riding the length of the Trans-Siberian Railway, running a marathon in Estonia, taking the ferry across the Black Sea from Ukraine to Georgia, camping in the desert in Turkmenistan and doing my best to speak Russian on a daily basis.
Now that I am back in my hometown of Chicago working full-time again, I make the most of my limited vacation time by taking weekend trips around the US, as well as a couple international trips a year. I continue to write about travel on my blog, but have expanded my focus to include Chicago-focused and more personal posts as well. I especially try to be a resource for others who are thinking of quitting their job or taking a sabbatical to travel long-term.
